Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dry Ingredients

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Step 2: Cut in the Butter

  1. Add the cold cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or fork to mix until the texture resembles coarse crumbs. Small butter pieces are essential for flaky, tender scones.

Step 3: Mix the Wet Ingredients

  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract.

Step 4: Combine

  1. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until a soft dough forms. If adding raisins or chocolate chips, fold them in now. Avoid overmixing.

Step 5: Shape the Dough

  1. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Gently pat it into a circle about 1-inch thick. Cut into wedges or use a round cutter.

Step 6: Preheat the Air Fryer

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3 minutes.

Step 7: Air Fry

  1. Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper. Place scones in a single layer, leaving room for expansion. Brush the tops with milk.
  2. Cook for 8–10 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.

Step 8: Cool & Serve

  1. Let the scones cool slightly before serving with butter, jam, or cream.
