Instructions
- Bring a kettle of water to a boil. You will need approximately 2 cups, or 480 ml, of boiling water for the recipe.
- Rinse the lemon and cut it in half. Squeeze the juice from each half directly into a serving mug, dividing the lemon juice between the two mugs.
- Place the squeezed lemon halves into the mugs after juicing. Keeping the lemon pieces in the drink allows their flavor to continue infusing into the hot water.
- Rinse the fresh ginger thoroughly. Peel it if desired, then slice the 2-inch piece into smaller slices and divide them between the two mugs.
- Add a dash of ground turmeric to the mugs. If desired, add a pinch of fresh black pepper and a pinch of cayenne pepper for additional spice and warmth.
- Pour the boiling water into the mugs, dividing the 2 cups evenly between the servings.
- Let the ginger lemon water sit for a few minutes so the lemon, ginger, turmeric, and optional spices can infuse into the hot water.
- Serve warm and enjoy while fresh. If storing leftovers, refrigerate them and consume within 24 hours. Reheat before serving.
