No Swirling Water or Vinegar Needed: Skip the delicate vortex technique and acidic vinegar baths required by traditional stove-top poaching. Consistent Temperature Control: Rapid air circulation cooks the whites evenly while keeping the yolk perfectly runny. Hands-Free Cooking: Set your air fryer timer and walk away to toast your bread or brew fresh coffee. Minimal Clean-Up: Using small ramekins or silicone cups keeps your air fryer basket completely clean.
Ingredients
- 2 Large Fresh Eggs (Cold, high-quality)
- 4-6 tbsp Warm Water (Divided into 2–3 tablespoons per ramekin)
- Non-Stick Cooking Spray or Olive Oil (A tiny mist)
- Flaky Sea Salt & Cracked Black Pepper (To taste)
- Optional Garnish: Fresh chives, red pepper flakes, or everything bagel seasoning
Instructions
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Set your air fryer temperature to 360°F (180°C) and preheat for 3 minutes.
- Prep the Ramekins: Lightly spray the inside of two heat-safe ramekins or silicone muffin cups with non-stick cooking spray or olive oil.
- Add Warm Water: Pour 2 to 3 tablespoons of warm water into each ramekin.
- Crack the Eggs: Gently crack one cold, fresh egg into each water-filled ramekin. Be careful not to puncture the yolk.
- Air Fry to Preferred Doneness: Place the filled ramekins directly into the preheated air fryer basket. Slide the basket closed and cook at 360°F (180°C) for 5 minutes (Ultra-Runny Yolks), 6 minutes (Standard Poached), 7 minutes (Medium-Soft Yolks), or 8 minutes (Hard-Poached Yolks).
- Drain and Serve: Carefully remove the hot ramekins using tongs or an oven mitt. Using a spoon or slotted spoon, gently lift the poached egg out of the water, allowing excess water to drain onto a paper towel. Season with flaky sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper.
Notes
Use Cold, Fresh Eggs: Fresh egg whites are thick and tightly bound to the yolk. Older eggs have watery whites that spread out in the ramekin, resulting in uneven cooking. Pre-Warm the Water: Using lukewarm water in the ramekin prevents the air fryer from wasting precious cook time bringing cold tap water to temperature. Do Not Overcrowd the Basket: Leave at least an inch of space between ramekins so hot air flows freely around the sides and top of each dish. Know Your Air Fryer Model: Compact basket-style air fryers often cook slightly faster than larger air fryer toaster ovens. Check your eggs at the 5-minute mark on your first attempt. Troubleshooting: If egg white is still translucent, return to air fryer for 60-90 seconds. If yolk is overcooked, reduce time by 1 minute. If egg is stuck, ensure ramekin is thoroughly greased.
