Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Filling

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sausage meat with onion, garlic, salt, pepper, thyme, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and parsley.
  2. Mix thoroughly using clean hands or a spoon until everything is evenly distributed.
  3. The seasoning enhances the natural richness of the sausage, while herbs add freshness and depth.

Step 2: Prepare the Pastry

  1. Lay the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface.
  2. Cut it lengthwise into two long strips for medium sausage rolls or keep whole for larger rolls.
  3. Ensure the pastry stays cold for best puff and crispiness.

Step 3: Shape the Sausage Rolls

  1. Divide the sausage mixture into even portions and shape into long logs.
  2. Place each log along the edge of the pastry strip.
  3. Roll the pastry over the filling tightly, sealing the edge with a little water or beaten egg.
  4. Press gently to seal the seam, ensuring no filling leaks during cooking.
  5. Cut into individual rolls using a sharp knife.

Step 4: Egg Wash

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together egg and milk.
  2. Brush each sausage roll lightly with the egg wash.
  3. This step helps achieve a golden, glossy, bakery-style finish in the air fryer.

Step 5: Preheat Air Fryer

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 180°C (356°F) for 3–5 minutes .
  2. Preheating ensures even cooking and crisp pastry layers.

Step 6: Air Fry Cooking Process

  1. Place sausage rolls in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  2. Avoid overcrowding to allow proper air circulation.
  3. Cook at 180°C (356°F) for 12–15 minutes at medium-high heat intensity .
  4. Halfway through cooking, flip or rotate the rolls for even browning.
  5. They are done when the pastry is golden brown and crisp, and the sausage filling is fully cooked through.

Step 7: Cooling and Serving

  1. Remove sausage rolls carefully and let them cool for 5 minutes.
  2. This helps the filling set and prevents burns from hot juices inside.
  3. Serve warm with ketchup, mustard, chili sauce, or mayonnaise.
