Instructions

Step 1: Inspect and Measure the Cloves

  1. Measure out 1 tablespoon of whole cloves. Inspect them to ensure they are high quality; fresh cloves should have a deep brown color, a strong pungent aroma, and should release a tiny bit of oil when pressed with a fingernail.

Step 2: The Hot Water Bloom (Optional Quick Method)

  1. If you are short on time, place the whole cloves into a heat-safe glass jar or pitcher and pour 1 cup of freshly boiled water over them. Let this steep for 30 minutes to jump-start the extraction of the essential oils. Afterward, add the remaining 3 cups of room-temperature filtered water.
  1. For the best balance of flavor and nutrient extraction, place 1 tablespoon of whole cloves directly into a glass jar or pitcher with 4 cups of pure room-temperature filtered water . Stir gently, cover the container with a lid or a clean cloth, and let it steep at room temperature for 8 to 12 hours (overnight is ideal). Over this time, the water will gradually turn a rich amber or golden-brown color and absorb the warm, spicy essence of the cloves.

Step 4: Strain the Liquid

  1. Once the steeping time is complete, pour the infused liquid through a fine-mesh sieve or a cheesecloth into a clean glass bottle or pitcher. This removes all the spent whole cloves.

Step 5: Serve and Store

  1. Your homemade clove water is now ready to enjoy! You can drink it at room temperature, chill it in the refrigerator for a refreshing cool tonic, or gently warm it up if you prefer a comforting warm tea.
