Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread (soft-sided, wide enough to hold toppings)
  • ½ cup salted butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1½ to 2 cups pizza sauce (use the lesser amount for a crisper crust)
  • 2 cups shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese
  • 4 ounces pepperoni slices (or cooked sausage, mushrooms, olives, or bell peppers)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3 to 5 minutes. A hot basket is critical for a crisp bottom rather than a soggy one.
  2. Cut the bread. Slice the loaf in half lengthwise, then cut each half crosswise so you end up with 4 equal pieces . If your air fryer basket is small, cut the pieces smaller so they fit in a single layer without overlapping.
  3. Make the garlic butter. In a small bowl, mash together the softened butter, garlic powder, and dried oregano until smooth. Spread this mixture evenly over the cut faces of the bread. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan over the butter in an even layer.
  4. First air fry (toast phase). Place the bread pieces buttered-side up in the air fryer basket. Cook at 400°F for 2 minutes , or until the edges are lightly golden and the butter has soaked in. This step creates a barrier that keeps the sauce from turning the bread mushy .
  5. Add toppings. Remove the basket. Spread 1½ to 2 cups pizza sauce over the toasted surface, leaving a small border around the edges. Scatter the 2 cups mozzarella evenly on top, then arrange the pepperoni (or your chosen toppings) over the cheese. Do not overload—too many wet toppings will steam the crust.
  6. Second air fry (melt phase). Return the pizzas to the air fryer. Cook at 400°F for 4 to 5 minutes . Watch closely during the final minute: you want the cheese fully melted, bubbly, and just starting to brown at the peaks. If your air fryer runs hot, check at 3½ minutes.
  7. Rest and serve. Let the pizzas sit for 2 to 3 minutes before slicing. This brief rest lets the cheese set slightly so the toppings don’t slide off. Cut each piece in half if desired and serve hot.
