Instructions

Step 1: Prepare and Season the Chicken

  1. Begin by patting the chicken breasts dry with paper towels to ensure optimal searing. Season both sides of the chicken generously with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and ground cumin.

Step 2: Sear the Chicken

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering and hot, add the seasoned chicken breasts. Sear for about 4 to 5 minutes on each side until a golden-brown crust forms. The chicken does not need to be fully cooked through at this stage; searing simply locks in the juices and builds a rich flavor base.

Step 3: Simmer and Shred

  1. Pour the chicken broth into the skillet around the chicken. Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the skillet with a lid, and let it simmer for about 12 to 15 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C) and the meat is tender. Remove the chicken from the skillet and place it on a cutting board. Using two forks, shred the chicken completely.

Step 4: Build the “Crack” Sauce Base

  1. Turn the skillet heat down to low. Add the softened cream cheese and the ranch seasoning mix directly into the remaining cooking juices in the pan. Stir continuously until the cream cheese melts completely and blends into a smooth, creamy, aromatic sauce.

Step 5: Combine Chicken and Bacon

  1. Return the shredded chicken back into the creamy ranch sauce, tossing thoroughly until every piece is evenly coated. Fold in half of the crumbled crispy bacon and half of the shredded cheddar cheese. Stir gently until the cheese melts into the mixture, creating a rich, decadent filling. Remove from heat.

Step 6: Warm the Shells and Assemble

  1. Warm your taco shells or tortillas according to package instructions. Spoon a generous amount of the warm crack chicken filling into each shell. Top generously with the remaining shredded cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon, chopped green onions, and any additional optional garnishes of your choice. Serve immediately while hot and gooey.
