Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup. Place a wire rack on top of the baking sheet if available.
  2. Using a wire rack helps air circulate around the bacon, allowing it to become crisp on all sides while excess grease drips away.

Step 2: Twist the Bacon

  1. Take one strip of bacon and hold both ends firmly. Twist the bacon several times until it forms a tight spiral. Do not overtwist, as the bacon may tear.
  2. Place the twisted strip on the prepared rack or baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining bacon slices.

Step 3: Add Optional Seasonings

  1. If desired, sprinkle the twisted bacon with black pepper, smoked paprika, brown sugar, or cayenne pepper.
  2. For a sweet-and-savory variation, lightly brush each twist with maple syrup.

Step 4: Bake

  1. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven.
  2. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, depending on the thickness of the bacon and your desired level of crispiness.

Step 5: Rotate if Necessary

  1. At the halfway point, rotate the baking sheet for even cooking. If your oven has hot spots, this helps ensure all pieces cook uniformly.

Step 6: Check for Doneness

  1. The bacon is ready when it appears deep golden brown and crispy. Remember that bacon continues to crisp slightly as it cools.

Step 7: Cool and Serve

  1. Remove the bacon from the oven and transfer it to a plate lined with paper towels.
  2. Allow the bacon to cool for 5 minutes before serving.
