Ingredients
The Bread
- 1 Loaf of Bread: A fresh baguette, Italian loaf, or ciabatta works best. Alternatively, use 4 thick slices of Texas toast or sourdough.
- 4 tbsp Salted Butter: Softened at room temperature. (If using unsalted butter, add a pinch of salt to the mixture).
The Flavor Base
- 3–4 Cloves Garlic: Freshly minced. (Do not use garlic powder for this recipe; fresh garlic is essential for the intensity of flavor).
- 2 tbsp Fresh Parsley: Finely chopped (plus extra for garnish).
- ¼ tsp Black Pepper: Freshly cracked.
Optional Add-Ins (For Extra Intensity)
- ¼ cup Parmesan Cheese: Finely grated.
- ¼ tsp Red Pepper Flakes: For a spicy kick.
- ¼ tsp Smoked Paprika: For a smoky depth.

Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Garlic Butter (Intensity: Low)
- In a small mixing bowl, combine the softened salted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and black pepper. Use a fork to mash the ingredients together until you have a smooth, cohesive paste. If you are using parmesan or red pepper flakes, fold them in now.
- Note: If your butter is cold and hard, you can microwave it for 10–15 seconds, but do not melt it completely. You want the mixture to remain spreadable to prevent it from soaking the bread too much before cooking.
Step 2: Prepare the Bread (Intensity: Low)
- Slice your baguette or loaf in half lengthwise (horizontally) to create two long halves. If you prefer individual portions, slice the loaf diagonally into 1-inch thick slices, taking care not to cut all the way through the bottom crust (a “hasselback” style) or simply separate the slices entirely.
Step 3: Apply the Spread (Intensity: Low–Medium)
- Using a butter knife or a pastry brush, liberally spread the garlic butter mixture across the cut surface of the bread. Be generous. Ensure the garlic pieces are evenly distributed. If you left the bread whole (halved lengthwise), you can wrap the edges loosely in foil to prevent them from burning while the center gets crispy—though this is optional and depends on your air fryer’s intensity.
Step 4: Air Frying (Intensity: High Heat)
- Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 2 minutes. Preheating is crucial for a crispy crust.
- For Halved Bread: Place the halves directly into the air fryer basket, cut side up. You may need to do this in batches depending on the size of your basket. Cook at 350°F (175°C) for 4 to 5 minutes .
- For Slices: Arrange the slices in a single layer (do not overlap). Cook at 350°F (175°C) for 3 to 4 minutes .
- Intensity Check: Keep an eye on the bread during the last minute. Air fryers vary in intensity; some cook much faster than others. You are looking for a golden brown, bubbly surface. If the garlic starts to brown too quickly, reduce the temperature to 320°F (160°C) .
Step 5: The Finish (Intensity: Low)
- Once the bread is golden and crispy, remove it from the air fryer immediately. Transfer to a cutting board. If you cooked it whole, slice it into serving portions. Garnish with a pinch of fresh parsley and serve hot.
