Air Fryer Poached Eggs are a simple and reliable way to enjoy perfectly cooked eggs without using the traditional stovetop poaching method. By cooking the eggs in individual ramekins filled with water, the whites become tender while the yolks stay deliciously soft. This quick recipe is ideal for breakfast, brunch, or as a protein-rich addition to salads, toast, or grain bowls.
Ingredients
- Olive oil spray or avocado oil spray
- 2 large eggs
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (204°C) for 5 minutes.
- Lightly coat the inside of each ramekin with olive oil spray or avocado oil spray.
- Pour ¼ cup of room temperature water into each ramekin.
- Carefully crack one large egg into each ramekin, making sure the egg is sitting in the water.
- Place the ramekins into the preheated air fryer basket.
- Reduce the temperature to 360°F (182°C) and cook for 5 minutes.
- Carefully remove the basket just enough to access the ramekins.
- Using a teaspoon or a small rubber spatula, gently loosen the egg around the edges of each ramekin.
- Return the ramekins to the air fryer and continue cooking for 1 to 2 more minutes, depending on how runny or firm you prefer the yolks.
- Using oven mitts, carefully remove the hot ramekins from the air fryer.
- Gently slide each egg into a small strainer and allow any excess water to drain away.
- Transfer the eggs to a serving plate and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper before serving.
Notes
Room temperature water works well for this recipe and eliminates the need to pre-boil water. A light coating of oil helps the eggs release easily from the ramekins. Cooking time may vary depending on your air fryer model, ramekin size, and egg size. Refrigerated eggs were used for this recipe. If using smaller eggs, begin checking for doneness slightly earlier. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to allow proper air circulation. Test the recipe with one or two eggs the first time to determine the ideal cooking time for your appliance. The eggs continue cooking slightly after being removed from the air fryer, so remove them just before they reach your preferred doneness. Vinegar is not required for this air fryer method. For make-ahead preparation, place cooked eggs into an ice bath immediately after cooking, then store them in an airtight container covered with water in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat by placing the eggs briefly in hot water or warming them gently in the microwave.
