A simple recipe for tender pork ribs cooked in cola and finished with barbecue sauce, suitable for 4-6 people.

Ingredients

  • 2–3 pounds pork baby back ribs or St. Louis-style ribs
  • 12 ounces cola (regular cola works best)
  • 1½ cups barbecue sauce
  • Optional Garnishes: Chopped parsley, Sesame seeds, Green onions, Extra barbecue sauce for serving

Instructions

  1. Remove the thin silver membrane from the back of the ribs if it hasn’t already been removed. Cut the rack into sections that fit comfortably inside your slow cooker.
  2. Place the rib sections upright along the sides of the slow cooker or stack them carefully if necessary.
  3. Pour the cola evenly over the ribs.
  4. Cover with the lid. Cook on LOW for 7–8 hours or HIGH for 4–5 hours until the meat easily pulls away from the bone.
  5. Carefully remove the ribs. Discard most of the cooking liquid. Brush or coat the ribs generously with barbecue sauce.
  6. Optional: Place ribs on a foil-lined baking sheet, brush with additional barbecue sauce, and broil for 3–5 minutes until the sauce becomes sticky and lightly caramelized.
  7. Serve hot with extra barbecue sauce and your favorite side dishes.

Notes

Regular cola provides the richest flavor. Don’t overcook the ribs or they may fall apart completely. Let the ribs rest for about 5 minutes before serving. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
