Ingredients

The Core Roots & Citrus

  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Turmeric Root , thinly sliced or grated (wear gloves if you wish to avoid staining your fingers!)
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Ginger Root , thinly sliced or grated
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh Lemon Juice (freshly squeezed for the brightest acidity)
  • 1 thin slice of fresh lemon (for optional garnish)

The Spices & Liquids

  • 2 cups Filtered Water
  • 1 small pinch of Black Pepper (Crucial: piperine in black pepper significantly enhances the bioavailability of curcumin)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ceylon Cinnamon (adds a sweet, woody aroma)
  • 1 tablespoon Raw Honey or Pure Maple Syrup (adjust to taste, added after heating to preserve raw enzymes)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Virgin Coconut Oil or Coconut Butter (optional, healthy fats further assist in absorbing fat-soluble curcumin)

Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Roots

  1. Thoroughly scrub your fresh turmeric and ginger roots under cold water to remove any lingering soil. There is no need to peel them if they are organic; simply slice them thinly to expose maximum surface area, or use a fine microplane grater to release their potent essential oils instantly.

Step 2: Combine in the Simmer Pot

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the 2 cups of filtered water , sliced turmeric , ginger , cinnamon , and the pinch of black pepper .

Step 3: Simmer to Extract

  1. Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a lid, and let it simmer gently for 10 to 12 minutes . You will notice the liquid transform into a deep, radiant golden hue and your kitchen will fill with a warm, spicy aroma.

Step 4: Strain and Emulsify

  1. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Pour the hot liquid through a fine-mesh sieve directly into your favorite mugs to catch all the fibrous root pieces. If you are using the optional coconut oil , stir it into the hot liquid now until completely melted.

Step 5: Sweeten and Brighten

  1. Allow the tonic to cool for just a minute or two until it is hot but no longer boiling. Stir in the fresh lemon juice and your choice of raw honey or maple syrup . Taste, adjust sweetness if desired, garnish with a lemon wheel, and enjoy immediately!
