Instructions
1. Prepare the Oven
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) .
- Lightly grease a baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
- A hot oven is important because it helps the biscuits rise quickly and develop that beautiful golden exterior.
2. Combine the Flour and Butter
- Place the self-rising flour into a large mixing bowl.
- Cut the cold butter into small pieces and add it to the flour.
- Using your fingertips or a pastry cutter, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Don’t completely blend the butter into the flour—small pieces of butter are exactly what you want.
3. Add the Cream
- Pour the heavy cream into the flour mixture.
- Gently stir with a wooden spoon or spatula until a soft dough forms.
- Don’t overmix.
- The dough may look slightly shaggy, and that’s perfectly fine.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface.
- Gently bring it together with your hands.
- Pat the dough to approximately ¾-inch thick .
- Fold the dough over itself once or twice, then gently pat it back down.
- This simple folding technique helps create tender layers without requiring extensive kneading.
