Instructions
Step 1: Make the Apple Filling (5 minutes)
- In a small skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook for 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples soften slightly and release their juices. Sprinkle in the cornstarch and stir for another 30–60 seconds until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes. The filling should be thick, not runny—excess moisture will make the roll-ups soggy.
Step 2: Prepare the Bread (3 minutes)
- Using a rolling pin, flatten each crustless bread slice into a thin, pliable rectangle (about 4×5 inches). Press firmly but gently—you want the bread compressed enough to roll without tearing.
Step 3: Fill and Roll (5 minutes)
- Spoon about 1½ tablespoons of cooled apple filling onto one end of each flattened bread slice. Roll the bread tightly around the filling, pressing the seam to seal. Brush each roll-up lightly with melted butter on all sides, then roll in the cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat.
Step 4: Air Fry (8–10 minutes)
- Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3 minutes. Arrange the roll-ups in a single layer in the basket, seam-side down, leaving a small gap between each (work in batches if needed—do not overcrowd). Air fry at 350°F for 8–10 minutes , flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy. Watch closely during the last 2 minutes, as sugar coatings can brown quickly.
Step 5: Cool and Serve
- Transfer to a wire rack and cool for 2–3 minutes. Serve warm with caramel sauce, a dusting of powdered sugar, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
