Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Hot Dogs

  1. Cut the hot dogs or sausages into bite-sized pieces, about 1 to 1.5 inches long. Pat them dry with a paper towel to help the batter stick better. Set aside.

Step 2: Make the Batter

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk well to ensure even distribution of dry ingredients.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a thick, smooth batter forms.
  3. The batter should be thick enough to coat the hot dogs without dripping too quickly. If it feels too thick, add 1–2 tablespoons of milk. If too thin, add a little flour.

Step 3: Preheat the Air Fryer

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3–5 minutes. This ensures even cooking and crisp texture.

Step 4: Coat the Hot Dogs

  1. Dip each hot dog piece into the batter, making sure it is fully coated. Use a spoon to help cover evenly if needed. Gently shake off excess batter.

Step 5: Arrange in Air Fryer

  1. Place the battered corn dog bites in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Leave space between each piece so air can circulate properly. Do not overcrowd.
  2. Optional: Lightly spray with cooking oil for extra crispiness.

Step 6: Air Fry

  1. Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 10–12 minutes , flipping halfway through cooking.
  2. The bites should turn golden brown and crispy on the outside while staying soft inside. Cooking intensity here is medium heat air circulation , ensuring even browning without deep frying.

Step 7: Cool Slightly

  1. Remove from the air fryer and let the bites cool for about 5 minutes . This helps the batter set and improves texture.
