There is nothing quite as comforting as a classic diner-style tuna melt, and making it in the air fryer takes the texture to an entirely new level. With

Equipment
- Air fryer (basket or toaster oven style): Circulates high-velocity dry heat to crisp the bread and blister the cheese rapidly.
- Small mixing bowl: Allows thorough, even blending of tuna, celery, herbs, and dressing without mashing the flakes into paste.
- Fine-mesh strainer or can-drainer: Squeezes away residual water or oil from canned tuna to guarantee a non-soggy filling.
- Perforated air fryer parchment liners: Prevents melted cheese drips from adhering to the bottom grate while maintaining airflow.
Ingredients
- 1 can (5 oz / 140 g) chunk light or albacore tuna in water , thoroughly drained and flaked
- 1.5 tbsp avocado oil mayonnaise (olive oil mayonnaise works equally well)
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 2 tbsp finely minced celery (provides crunch and freshness)
- 1 tbsp finely chopped red onion
- 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and freshly cracked black pepper , to taste
- 2 slices low-carb keto bread (choose a sturdy brand with 1–2g net carbs per slice)
- 2 slices (approx. 1.5 oz / 42 g total) sharp cheddar cheese (substitute provolone, Swiss, or pepper jack)
- Fresh chopped chives or parsley , for garnish (optional)

Instructions
- Drain and prep: Press the canned tuna against a fine-mesh strainer with a spoon to express all residual liquid. Flake the drained tuna meat lightly into a small mixing bowl using a fork.
- Mix the filling: Add mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, minced celery, red onion, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper into the bowl. Fold gently until evenly incorporated; avoid over-mixing to maintain pleasant tuna flakiness.
- Preheat and pre-toast: Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 2 minutes. Lay the 2 slices of low-carb bread dry into the bare basket and air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 2 minutes until dry to the touch and slightly firm on top.
- Assemble the melts: Remove the basket and place bread toasted-side down. Mound equal portions of the tuna salad across each bread slice, spreading carefully to the crust edges. Lay one slice of sharp cheddar evenly over the top of each mound.
- Air fry to golden perfection: Return the basket to the air fryer. Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 3 to 4 minutes, watching through the window or opening briefly at minute 3 until the cheese is completely melted, blistered, and lightly golden brown around the crust perimeter.
- Rest and garnish: Carefully transfer the hot melts out of the basket with a flat spatula and rest for 60 seconds to allow the cheese crust to set. Garnish with minced fresh chives and serve immediately while crisp.
