Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease and line four cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. To prepare the vanilla cake batter, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
  3. In a separate large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy for around five minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time while mixing continuously. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Add the dry ingredients into the butter mixture in three additions, alternating with milk and sour cream. Mix gently until smooth and creamy.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between two prepared cake pans. Bake for 28 to 32 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool completely.
  7. For the chocolate cake layers, combine flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a large bowl.
  8. In another bowl, whisk eggs, oil, buttermilk, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix gently.
  9. Slowly add hot coffee while stirring. Pour the chocolate batter into the remaining cake pans.
  10. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Let the cakes cool fully before assembling.
  11. To make the cream filling, beat cream cheese until smooth. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  12. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture carefully.
  13. For the ganache, heat the heavy cream until hot but not boiling. Pour it over the chocolate chips and butter.
  14. Let it sit for two minutes, then stir until glossy and smooth. Allow it to cool slightly before using.
  15. To assemble, place one chocolate layer on a serving plate. Spread a thick layer of cream filling.
  16. Add a vanilla layer and repeat the process until all layers are stacked.
  17. Cover the entire cake with a thin layer of cream filling and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
  18. Pour the chocolate ganache over the top of the chilled cake, allowing it to drip naturally along the sides.
  19. Decorate with strawberries, chocolate shavings, crushed cookies, and caramel sauce.
  20. Refrigerate the dessert for at least two hours before slicing.

Notes

Serve chilled with coffee, tea, or vanilla ice cream. The dessert tastes even better the next day because the layers become softer and richer. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days or freeze slices individually for up to one month. Always use room-temperature ingredients, do not overmix the batter, cool cakes completely before frosting, and slice with a warm knife for neat servings.
