Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Bread

  1. Spread softened butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread. Make sure the butter reaches all the edges to create an evenly golden crust.
  2. If desired, sprinkle a little garlic powder and dried parsley over the butter for additional flavor.

Step 2: Assemble the Sandwich

  1. Place two slices of bread butter-side down on a cutting board.
  2. Layer two slices of cheddar cheese followed by one slice of mozzarella on each sandwich.
  3. Top with the remaining bread slices, making sure the buttered side faces outward.

Step 3: Heat the Pan

  1. Place a skillet over medium-low heat.
  2. Allow the pan to warm for about two minutes. Cooking over medium-low heat helps the cheese melt completely without burning the bread.

Step 4: Cook the First Side

  1. Place the sandwiches into the warm skillet.
  2. Cook for approximately 3–4 minutes until the bottom becomes golden brown and crisp.
  3. Avoid pressing the sandwich too firmly, as this may squeeze out the melted cheese.

Step 5: Flip Carefully

  1. Using a spatula, gently flip each sandwich.
  2. Cook the second side for another 3–4 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  3. If the bread browns too quickly, reduce the heat slightly.

Step 6: Rest Before Cutting

  1. Transfer the sandwiches to a cutting board.
  2. Let them rest for one minute before slicing.
  3. This brief resting period helps the cheese settle slightly while remaining wonderfully gooey.

Step 7: Serve

  1. Slice the sandwiches diagonally and serve immediately while the cheese is hot and stretchy.
  2. Pair with tomato soup, chips, fries, a fresh salad, or pickles.
