Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Carrots
- Wash, peel, and trim the carrots. Slice them into evenly sized rounds or sticks to ensure uniform cooking. Keeping the pieces similar in size helps the carrots cook evenly and absorb the glaze more effectively.
Step 2: Boil the Carrots
- Fill a medium saucepan with water and bring it to a boil over high heat. Add the sliced carrots and cook for approximately 8–10 minutes, or until they become fork-tender but still retain a slight firmness.
- Avoid overcooking the carrots at this stage, as they will continue cooking in the glaze later.
- Drain the carrots thoroughly and set them aside.
Step 3: Make the Honey Glaze
- Place a large skillet over medium heat. Add the butter and allow it to melt completely.
- Once melted, stir in the honey, brown sugar, water, salt, and black pepper. Mix until the ingredients combine into a smooth, glossy sauce.
- Allow the mixture to simmer gently for 2–3 minutes. The sugar will dissolve and the glaze will begin to thicken slightly.
Step 4: Coat the Carrots
- Add the drained carrots to the skillet.
- Using a wooden spoon or spatula, gently toss the carrots until every piece is coated in the honey glaze.
- Continue cooking over medium heat for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally. During this time, the glaze will reduce and cling to the carrots, creating a beautiful shiny coating.
Step 5: Finish and Serve
- Remove the skillet from the heat.
- Sprinkle chopped parsley or fresh thyme over the carrots if desired. These herbs add freshness and color while balancing the sweetness of the glaze.
- Transfer to a serving dish and serve immediately while warm.
