Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Cornflour Mixture

  1. Take a small bowl and add cornflour with a little amount of milk. Mix until the mixture becomes completely smooth.
  2. This step prevents lumps from forming when the custard cooks.

Step 2: Warm the Milk

  1. Pour the remaining milk into a saucepan. Add sugar and heat gently over low to medium heat.
  2. Stir occasionally until the sugar dissolves completely.
  3. Avoid boiling the milk because gentle heating creates a smoother custard texture.

Step 3: Add the Egg Yolks

  1. Beat the egg yolks separately until smooth.
  2. Slowly add some warm milk into the egg mixture while stirring continuously. This process helps prevent the eggs from cooking too quickly.
  3. Gradually combine the egg mixture with the saucepan.

Step 4: Cook the Custard

  1. Add the prepared cornflour mixture to the milk mixture.
  2. Cook over low heat while stirring constantly until the custard becomes thick and creamy.
  3. The texture should be smooth and able to coat the back of a spoon.
  4. Avoid cooking on high heat because it may create a grainy texture.

Step 5: Finish the Custard Layer

  1. Remove the saucepan from heat.
  2. Add vanilla extract and butter. Stir until the butter melts completely and the custard becomes glossy and smooth.
  3. Pour the custard into a serving dish, glasses, or jars.
  4. Allow it to cool slightly, then refrigerate for about 1 hour.
