Instructions

Step 1: Thaw and Prep Puff Pastry

  1. Thaw your puff pastry sheet in the fridge for a few hours or at room temperature for 30–40 minutes until pliable but still cold.
  2. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) .
  3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper .

Step 2: Roll and Fill

  1. Unfold the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface.
  2. If needed, gently roll it out into a rectangle roughly 10×12 inches.
  3. Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard or pesto over the surface.
  4. Layer on: Thin slices of prosciutto
  5. Sprinkle of grated cheese
  6. Optional herbs, onions, or jam
  7. Pro Tip: Don’t overload with fillings — less is more when working with puff pastry.

Step 3: Roll and Chill

  1. Starting from the longer side, tightly roll the pastry into a log.
  2. Gently press to seal the seam.
  3. Wrap the roll in plastic wrap and chill in the freezer for 15–20 minutes to firm up — this makes slicing easier and helps the pinwheels hold their shape during baking.

Step 4: Slice and Bake

  1. Slice the roll into ½-inch rounds using a sharp knife or dental floss.
  2. Place slices on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them 1–2 inches apart .
  3. Beat 1 egg with 1 tbsp milk or water and brush the tops with the egg wash.
  4. Sprinkle with extra cheese , herbs, or everything bagel seasoning (optional).
  5. Bake for 18–22 minutes , until golden brown and puffed.

Step 5: Cool and Serve

  1. Let cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet.
  2. Serve warm or at room temperature with a dipping sauce or on a charcuterie board.
