- 1 cup sourdough discard
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- In another bowl, mix the sourdough discard, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl of dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- If desired, fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed in the batter.
- Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Remove the brownies from the oven and allow them to cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, slice the brownies into squares and dust with powdered sugar if desired.
