Instructions

  1. Wash, peel, and grate the turmeric and ginger roots. A fine grater works best for creating a smooth paste texture. If using a food processor, pulse until finely minced.
  2. Place the grated turmeric, grated ginger, filtered water, cinnamon, and black pepper into a small saucepan. Stir until evenly combined.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir frequently while the mixture gently simmers. Avoid boiling vigorously, as excessive heat may affect the freshness of the ingredients. The mixture should thicken slightly and become fragrant.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool for approximately 10 minutes. The mixture should be warm rather than hot before adding the honey.
  5. Once the mixture has cooled slightly, stir in the raw honey until fully incorporated. If using lemon juice, add it at this stage and mix thoroughly.
  6. Transfer the finished paste into a clean glass jar. Seal with a lid and refrigerate. The paste will continue to thicken slightly as it cools.

Notes

Wear gloves when handling fresh turmeric to avoid staining. Use organic turmeric and ginger whenever possible. Stir frequently during simmering to prevent sticking. Allow the mixture to cool before adding honey. Adjust the amount of honey according to your preferred sweetness level. Store in an airtight glass container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 3 months.
