There is no flipping required, no messy stovetop splatters, and almost zero cleanup. It is a foolproof recipe that anyone can master on their very first try. The beauty of this recipe lies in its everyday ingredients. You likely already have everything you need sitting in your fridge and pantry right now!
Ingredients
- 2 thick slices of bread (thick-cut brioche, sourdough, or sturdy artisan white bread)
- 1 tbsp Unsalted Butter or Mayonnaise (softened or melted)
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup Shredded Cheese (Cheddar, mozzarella, Monterey Jack, or a Mexican blend)
- Everything Bagel Seasoning (to taste)
- Salt and Freshly Ground Black Pepper (to taste)
- Optional Garnishes: Fresh chopped chives, a drizzle of hot honey, or a dash of sriracha
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 360°F (180°C) for about 2-3 minutes so it is hot and ready to crisp.
- Lightly spread a thin layer of softened butter or mayonnaise onto one side of each slice of bread.
- Lay the bread slices butter-side down on a clean surface.
- Using the back of a spoon or a small glass, gently press down into the center of each slice of bread to create a slight indentation or “well.” Do not press all the way through.
- Sprinkle a ring of shredded cheese around the edges of the indentation on each slice of bread, leaving the very center of the well slightly clear.
- Carefully crack one large egg directly into the center well of each prepared slice of bread.
- Season the top of each egg with a pinch of salt, black pepper, and a generous sprinkle of Everything Bagel Seasoning.
- Add the rest of your shredded cheese around the whites if desired.
- Carefully transfer the loaded toast slices into your air fryer basket.
- Cook at 360°F (180°C) for 6 to 8 minutes (6 minutes for runny yolk, 7-8 minutes for medium to firm yolk).
- Once done, carefully lift the toast out of the basket using a spatula.
Notes
Best Enjoyed Fresh: This recipe is truly designed to be eaten immediately while the bread is shatteringly crisp and the cheese is piping hot. Make-Ahead Prep: You can prep your bread slices with the indentation and shredded cheese ahead of time, storing them covered in the fridge, but do not crack the raw eggs until right before air frying.
