Ingredients

Seafood

  • 4 cod fillets (about 6 ounces each)
  • 12 ounces large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

Garlic Butter Sauce

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 small shallot, finely diced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup chicken or seafood broth
  • ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest

Garnish

  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Extra Parmesan cheese
  • Lemon wedges

Instructions

Step 1: Season the Seafood

  1. Pat the cod fillets and shrimp dry with paper towels.
  2. Season both sides of the cod and shrimp with:
  3. Salt
  4. Black pepper
  5. Paprika
  6. Garlic powder
  7. Set aside while preparing the skillet.

Step 2: Sear the Cod

  1. Heat olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat .
  2. Place the cod fillets in the hot skillet.
  3. Cook for 3–4 minutes per side until lightly golden.
  4. The fish should release easily from the pan when ready to flip.
  5. Transfer to a plate.

Step 3: Cook the Shrimp

  1. In the same skillet, add the shrimp.
  2. Cook over medium-high heat for 1–2 minutes per side until pink and opaque.
  3. Remove the shrimp and set aside with the cod.

Step 4: Make the Garlic Butter Sauce

  1. Reduce heat to medium .
  2. Add the remaining butter.
  3. Stir in:
  4. Garlic
  5. Shallot
  6. Cook for 2 minutes , stirring frequently until fragrant.
  7. Pour in the seafood broth.
  8. Simmer for 2–3 minutes , scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.

Step 5: Create the Cream Sauce

  1. Lower heat to medium-low .
  2. Add:
  3. Heavy cream
  4. Parmesan cheese
  5. Italian seasoning
  6. Red pepper flakes
  7. Lemon zest
  8. Whisk until smooth.
  9. Simmer gently for 4–5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  10. Avoid boiling, as this may cause the cream to separate.

Step 6: Return the Seafood

  1. Carefully return the cod and shrimp to the skillet.
  2. Spoon the creamy sauce over the seafood.
  3. Cook for 3–4 minutes on low heat , or until the cod flakes easily with a fork and the shrimp are fully heated through.
  4. Finish with fresh lemon juice.

Step 7: Garnish and Serve

  1. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and additional Parmesan cheese if desired.
  2. Serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side.
