Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Garlic Butter

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) .
  2. In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, garlic powder, and salt.
  3. Give it a good mix.
  4. And don’t be shy with the garlic!
  5. This is garlic bread, after all.

Step 2: Prepare the Bread

  1. Slice the loaf lengthwise.
  2. Place both halves cut-side up on a baking sheet.
  3. Spread the garlic butter generously over the cut surfaces.
  4. You want that butter reaching almost all the way to the edges.

Step 3: Cook the Onions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and cook for about 5–7 minutes , stirring occasionally, until softened and lightly golden.
  3. If you’re adding peppers or mushrooms, toss them in now and cook until tender.
  4. Transfer the vegetables to a plate.

Step 4: Cook the Beef

  1. Add the thinly sliced beef to the same skillet.
  2. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Cook for about 3–5 minutes , breaking the slices apart with your spatula, until the beef is cooked through.
  4. Add the Worcestershire sauce and stir.
  5. Oh, that smell!
  6. This is when the kitchen starts smelling like a cheesesteak shop.

Step 5: Combine the Filling

  1. Return the cooked onions to the skillet with the beef.
  2. Stir everything together.
  3. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary.
  4. You want the mixture savory and flavorful before it ever touches the bread.

Step 6: Add the Beef to the Garlic Bread

  1. Spoon the beef and onion mixture evenly over the buttered bread.
  2. Don’t worry if it looks like a lot.
  3. That’s exactly what we want!
  4. Spread the filling all the way toward the edges so every slice gets plenty.

Step 7: Add the Cheese

  1. Lay the provolone slices over the top.
  2. Sprinkle with mozzarella.
  3. If you’re anything like me, you’ll probably add just a little extra cheese here.
  4. I mean… we’re already committed.

Step 8: Bake Until Golden and Bubbly

  1. Bake for about 10–15 minutes , or until the cheese is completely melted and bubbling.
  2. For an extra golden top, switch the oven to broil for 1–2 minutes at the end.
  3. Watch it carefully!
  4. Cheese can go from beautifully golden to “oops” surprisingly quickly under the broiler.

Step 9: Slice and Serve

  1. Let the garlic bread rest for a couple of minutes.
  2. Then slice it into pieces and serve while it’s hot.
  3. The combination of crisp bread, juicy beef, sweet onions, garlic butter, and melted cheese is absolutely incredible.
