Instructions
Step 1: Prep and Slice the Potatoes
- Wash your potatoes thoroughly. Using a sharp knife or a mandoline slicer, cut the potatoes into uniform 1/4-inch thick round slices . Uniform thickness is critical so every single slice cooks at the exact same rate.
Step 2: Soak to Remove Starch
- Place your sliced potato rounds into a large bowl filled with cold water. Let them soak for 15 minutes . This removes excess surface starch, which is the professional chef secret to preventing sogginess and maximizing crispiness. Drain the slices and pat them extremely dry with clean paper towels. (Surface moisture is the enemy of crunch!).
Step 3: Season the Slices
- Transfer the dry potato rounds into a large mixing bowl. Drizzle them with 1 1/2 tablespoons of olive oil or avocado oil, tossing gently to ensure every slice is lightly coated.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the garlic powder, smoked paprika, onion powder, kosher salt, and black pepper. Sprinkle this seasoning blend evenly over the potato slices, tossing thoroughly until all the rounds are coated in spices.
Step 4: Preheat and Spray the Air Fryer
- Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3 to 5 minutes. Lightly grease the air fryer basket with a non-stick cooking spray or oil mist to prevent the potatoes from sticking.
Step 5: Arrange in a Single Layer
- Place the seasoned potato rounds into the air fryer basket in a single layer. Crucial Rule: Do not overlap or crowd the slices too heavily, as the hot air needs to circulate freely around each piece to crisp them up. (Cook in two separate batches if necessary).
Step 6: Air Fry and Flip
- Cook at 400°F (200°C) for 10 minutes . Open the basket, and use a spatula or tongs to carefully flip each potato slice over.
- Continue cooking for another 10 to 12 minutes , shaking the basket or tossing the slices halfway through, until the potato rounds are deeply golden brown, crispy on the edges, and tender in the center.
Step 7: Rest and Serve
- Remove the crispy potato slices from the air fryer and transfer them to a wire cooling rack for 2 to 3 minutes. (Allowing them to rest briefly sets the crisp exterior). Garnish with fresh chopped parsley and serve immediately!
