Equipment
- Small non-reactive saucepan (stainless steel, ceramic, or heat-resistant glass; avoid aluminum or unlined cast iron to prevent metallic off-flavors).
- Fine-mesh sieve or organic cotton tea strainer.
- Heatproof glass pitcher or ceramic mugs.
Ingredients
Primary Elements
- Soursop Leaves ( Annona muricata ): 4 to 6 dried whole leaves (or 6 to 8 fresh, clean green leaves).
- Water: 3 cups (750 ml) filtered, chlorine-free spring water (reduces down to approximately 2 cups / 500 ml during boiling).
Optional Add-ins & Flavor Balancers
- Citrus: 1–2 fresh lemon or lime slices (adds bright acidity to balance natural earthy tannins).
- Spice: 1 small cinnamon stick or 2 crushed green cardamom pods (simmered alongside the leaves).
- Sweetener: 1 to 2 teaspoons raw wildflower honey, pure maple syrup, or agave nectar (added post-boil).
- Root Booster: ½-inch knob of fresh ginger, peeled and lightly bruised.

Instructions
- 1.Rinse and Inspect the Leaves: Prerequisite to remove dust, grit, or debris.
- Gently rinse the soursop leaves under cool running water. If using fresh leaves, pat them dry and check that they are free of blemishes or insect residue. If using dried leaves, avoid crushing them into dust; keeping them mostly whole or broken into 2–3 pieces preserves clarity in the liquor.
- 2.Bring Filtered Water to a Rolling Boil: High intensity heat (approx. 100°C / 212°F).
- Add 3 cups of fresh, cold, filtered water to your saucepan. Place over high heat and bring to a vigorous, rolling boil. If you plan to add ginger root or a cinnamon stick, add them into the pot right as the water comes to a boil.
- 3.Add Leaves and Reduce to a Simmer: Shift heat to Low-Medium.
- Add the prepared soursop leaves directly into the boiling water. Press them gently below the surface using a wooden spoon. Immediately lower the heat setting to low or medium-low so the liquid settles into a steady, rhythmic simmer rather than an aggressive boil.
- 4.Simmer to Desired Extraction Intensity: 5 to 15 minutes depending on desired strength.
- Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid to trap volatile aromatic oils. Simmer according to your chosen strength:
- Mild: 5–7 minutes
- Medium: 10–12 minutes
- Robust: 15 minutes The water will transform from a pale green tint to an inviting amber-gold.
- 5.Remove from Heat and Steep: Zero heat (Resting extraction).
- Turn off the stove. Keep the saucepan covered and let the tea rest undisturbed off the heat for 5 to 10 minutes . This resting phase rounds out the herbal profile, allows the remaining botanical tannins to soften, and completes the extraction process.
- 6.Strain and Pour: Separation stage.
- Carefully remove the lid. Pour the liquid through a fine-mesh tea strainer into heatproof mugs or a serving decanter. Discard the spent leaves in your organic compost.
- 7.Garnish and Serve: Final flavor adjustments.
- Serve piping hot as an evening relaxant, or allow it to cool to room temperature and chill over ice for a crisp herbal iced tea. Stir in honey, maple syrup, or a squeeze of fresh lemon juice immediately before serving.
