Instructions
Step 1: Combine the Ingredients
- Pour the water into a small saucepan and add the whole flaxseeds. Stir gently so the seeds are evenly distributed.
Step 2: Simmer the Mixture
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
- Reduce to a simmer and cook for 10–15 minutes , stirring occasionally.
- As the flaxseeds cook, they release a natural gel that thickens the liquid.
- The gel is ready when it has a consistency similar to thin egg whites or light syrup.
Step 3: Strain Immediately
- Remove the saucepan from the heat.
- While still hot, pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean bowl.
- Stir or squeeze carefully to separate the gel from the seeds before it cools and thickens further.
- Discard the cooked seeds or compost them if appropriate.
Step 4: Cool the Gel
- Allow the strained gel to cool to room temperature.
- The gel will become thicker as it cools.
Step 5: Add Optional Ingredients
- Once cooled, stir in the aloe vera gel, vegetable glycerin, or essential oil if using.
- Mix until smooth and evenly combined.
Step 6: Store Properly
- Transfer the finished flaxseed gel to a clean, airtight glass jar.
- Refrigerate immediately.
- Use within 7–10 days for the best quality. For longer storage, freeze the gel in small portions and thaw as needed.
