Instructions

Step 1: Combine the Ingredients

  1. Pour the water into a small saucepan and add the whole flaxseeds. Stir gently so the seeds are evenly distributed.

Step 2: Simmer the Mixture

  1. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
  2. Reduce to a simmer and cook for 10–15 minutes , stirring occasionally.
  3. As the flaxseeds cook, they release a natural gel that thickens the liquid.
  4. The gel is ready when it has a consistency similar to thin egg whites or light syrup.

Step 3: Strain Immediately

  1. Remove the saucepan from the heat.
  2. While still hot, pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean bowl.
  3. Stir or squeeze carefully to separate the gel from the seeds before it cools and thickens further.
  4. Discard the cooked seeds or compost them if appropriate.

Step 4: Cool the Gel

  1. Allow the strained gel to cool to room temperature.
  2. The gel will become thicker as it cools.

Step 5: Add Optional Ingredients

  1. Once cooled, stir in the aloe vera gel, vegetable glycerin, or essential oil if using.
  2. Mix until smooth and evenly combined.

Step 6: Store Properly

  1. Transfer the finished flaxseed gel to a clean, airtight glass jar.
  2. Refrigerate immediately.
  3. Use within 7–10 days for the best quality. For longer storage, freeze the gel in small portions and thaw as needed.
