Ingredients

For the pastry:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Filling:

  • 100 g cooked ham (thin slices or diced)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or mix)
  • ½ red bell pepper (finely diced)
  • ½ green bell pepper (finely diced)
  • ¼ onion (finely chopped)
  • ½ cup spinach (optional, chopped)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano or Italian herbs
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Prepare the filling

  1. Heat olive oil in a pan.
  2. Sauté onion and bell peppers for 3–4 minutes until softened.
  3. Add spinach (if using) and cook briefly.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, and herbs.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool.

2. Roll the pastry

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (390°F).
  2. Roll out puff pastry on a lightly floured surface.
  3. Cut into a rectangle if needed.

3. Add filling

  1. Spread the cooked veggies evenly over half of the pastry.
  2. Add ham and sprinkle cheese generously on top.
  3. Fold the other half of the pastry over the filling.

4. Cut and twist

  1. Cut into strips (about 2 cm wide).
  2. Twist each strip gently and place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

5. Egg wash

  1. Beat the egg and brush over each twist for a golden finish.

6. Bake

  1. Bake for 15–20 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.
