If you are looking for a quick, healthy, and protein-packed snack, these crispy cottage cheese sticks are the perfect choice. They are golden and crunchy on the outside while staying soft, cheesy, and flavorful inside. Best of all, they are made in the air fryer, which means you can enjoy a delicious crispy texture with less oil than traditional frying. These cottage cheese sticks are perfect for evening snacks, party appetizers, lunchboxes, or even a post-workout meal.
Ingredients
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup oats or breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 2–3 tablespoons flour
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Salt to taste
- Cooking spray or a little oil
Instructions
- Place the cottage cheese into a large mixing bowl. If the curds are too large, lightly mash them using a fork. Add the mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese, then mix gently. Next, add the oats or breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, and salt. Stir everything together until a thick and slightly sticky dough forms. If the mixture feels too wet, add a little extra oats or breadcrumbs. If it becomes too dry, mix in another spoonful of cottage cheese.
- Lightly dust your hands with flour to prevent sticking. Take small portions of the mixture and roll them into finger-sized sticks. Try to keep them evenly sized so they cook evenly in the air fryer. For extra crunch, coat each stick lightly with breadcrumbs or oats before cooking. Place the shaped sticks on a tray or plate while you prepare the rest.
- Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (350°F) for about 3–5 minutes.
- Arrange the sticks in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Leave a little space between each stick to allow hot air to circulate properly. Lightly spray the tops with cooking oil. Cook for 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway through cooking. The sticks should turn golden brown and develop a delicious crispy coating. If you like them extra crispy, cook for an additional 1–2 minutes.
- Carefully remove the sticks from the air fryer and let them cool for about 2 minutes before serving. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
Prep Time: 10 minutes; Cook Time: 10–12 minutes; Total Time: 20–22 minutes; Yield: 8–10 sticks. Use thick cottage cheese for better firmness. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. Storage: Refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze uncooked sticks. Reheat in air fryer at 180°C (350°F) for 3–4 minutes. Variations include adding jalapeños, herbs, or using paneer instead of cottage cheese.
