Ingredients

For the Taco Beef

  • 1 lb (450 g) lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil, if needed
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • ¼ cup water
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon chili flakes, optional

For the Salad

  • 4–5 cups chopped romaine or iceberg lettuce
  • 2 cups tortilla chips, lightly crushed
  • 1 can black beans, about 15 oz (425 g), drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup sweet corn, drained
  • 1 large red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 large orange or yellow bell pepper, diced
  • 2 large tomatoes, diced
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 large avocado, diced
  • ½ cup sliced black olives, optional
  • ¼ cup finely chopped red onion
  • ¼ cup chopped green onions
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 jalapeño, finely chopped, optional

For the Salad

  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup salsa
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon taco seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin
  • A pinch of salt
  • A pinch of black pepper

For the Salad

  • Extra tortilla chips
  • Extra salsa
  • Guacamole
  • Lime wedges
  • Pickled jalapeños
  • Shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Green onions
  • Hot sauce
  • Diced cucumber
  • Pico de gallo

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Taco Beef

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Beef
  2. Add the ground beef and cook for approximately 6–8 minutes , breaking it apart with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Fruits & Vegetables
  3. Continue cooking until the beef is completely browned and reaches a safe internal temperature of 160°F/71°C .

  5. Add the taco seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and ¼ cup water.

  7. Reduce the heat and allow the mixture to simmer for another 3–5 minutes , allowing the seasoning to soak into the meat.
  8. Remove from the heat.
  9. Let the beef cool for several minutes before assembling the salad.
