Instructions
- Combine the kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika in a small bowl. Mix thoroughly and set the seasoning blend aside.
- Place the cubed russet potatoes into a medium mixing bowl. Add 2 teaspoons of the olive oil and toss the potatoes until they are evenly coated.
- Measure out ¼ teaspoon of the seasoning mixture and reserve it for the onions. Sprinkle the remaining seasoning over the potatoes and toss thoroughly so the seasoning is distributed across the potato pieces.
- Arrange the seasoned potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding the basket when possible so hot air can circulate around the pieces.
- Air fry the potatoes at 390 degrees F for 7 minutes. While the potatoes are cooking, place the chopped yellow onion into the same mixing bowl. Add the remaining 1 teaspoon of olive oil and toss until the onion pieces are evenly coated. Sprinkle the reserved ¼ teaspoon of seasoning mixture over the onions and toss again.
- After the initial 7 minutes, carefully remove the air fryer basket. Add the seasoned onions to the potatoes. Shake the basket gently or use tongs to toss the potatoes and onions together.
- Return the basket to the air fryer and cook for another 7 to 9 minutes, or until the potatoes are golden brown and tender and the onions are perfectly cooked.
- If preparing a double batch in separate batches, combine the finished potatoes and onions in the air fryer basket after all batches are cooked. Heat everything together for 1 to 2 minutes before serving.
