Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Air Fryer
- Preheat your air fryer to 360°F (180°C) for about 3 to 5 minutes. Preheating is crucial because it ensures an immediate sear on the bread as soon as it goes into the basket, preventing it from getting soggy.
Step 2: Butter the Bread
- Take your two slices of bread and lay them flat on a clean cutting board. Spread the softened butter evenly across one side of each slice. Make sure you cover right to the edges so the crust toasts up golden and crisp.
- (Pro Tip: If you prefer the ultimate restaurant-style crunch, use a thin layer of mayonnaise instead of butter on the outside of the bread. It browns magnificently in the air fryer!)
Step 3: Assemble the Sandwich
- Flip one slice of bread over so the buttered side is facing down against your board. Layer your shredded or sliced cheese evenly across the unbuttered side. If you are adding tomatoes, bacon, or fresh herbs, layer them right in the middle of the cheese. Top with the second slice of bread, ensuring the buttered side is facing up .
